The Next Generation of Cooling Refrigerants.

A refrigerant is a liquid that is stored in your AC coils, which help cool and dehumidify the indoor air. Without refrigerants, air conditioning would not be possible. For years, the most common AC refrigerant was R-22 (Freon), but in 2012 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated the phase-out of R-22 through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, it will be illegal to produce R-22 as a result of its negative effects on the environment.

Introducing R-410A

R-410ATo reduce environmental impacts, all Lennox® products are now compatible with the new R-410A AC refrigerant. R-410A is EPA-recognized and is free of chlorine, so it’s ozone-friendly. You can feel great about using this refrigerant in Charlottesville because it’ll help make your system perform efficiently, reliably and quietly, and offer the same cool comfort in the warmer months.

Additional Considerations

If your AC or heat pump was built anytime before 2010, it may not be R-410A-compatible. You may want to look into upgrading your cooling system before R-22 is totally unavailable. The old refrigerant will become rare in the next few years, costing you more to use your system effectively. The Lennox products we offer at Beck Cohen work with R-410A, so you can be sure we have an AC or heat pump you can better rely on. Additionally, refrain from using”alternate refrigerants that claim to work in R-22 systems. These include R-407C, R-438A and R-422, all of which can actually compromise your system’s performance.
